1. Warnings Against Wealth and Greed
These verses show that greed and wealth are incompatible with faith and that those who seek power through money are outside of God's Kingdom.
- Matthew 6:24 – “You cannot serve both God and Mammon.”
- Luke 6:24-25 – “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry.”
- Luke 12:15 – “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
- Mark 10:25 – “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
- James 5:1-5 – “Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.”
- 1 Timothy 6:9-10 – “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.”
These passages make it clear: Christianity cannot serve both God and wealth. Those who hoard riches have already received their reward in Empire, not in God's Kingdom.
2. The Powerful and Corrupt Will Be Overthrown
These passages show that God’s justice is about reversing power structures—the oppressed are lifted up, and the powerful are cast down.
- Luke 1:52-53 – “He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.”
- Matthew 23:12 – “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
- Psalm 146:7-9 – “He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down.”
- Isaiah 10:1-3 – “Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.”
- Revelation 18:2-3 – “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a dwelling for demons. The merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”
These verses show that Empire will fall and that God’s justice lifts up the poor while removing the powerful from their thrones.
